Gaps among front teeth
Patient had an increased overjet (ie upper front teeth staying further forward compared to lower front teeth) and increased spacing among the upper front teeth. However, due to work and live performances, the patient did not want anything that would compromise his appearance.
Aside from the dental malocclusion, patient had an underlying skeletal discrepancy with the lower jaw slightly retruded.
Options available were:
- Conventional full braces (fixed appliance, brackets on front surfaces) with elastics wear -- either metal brackets or ceramic brackets
- Lingual braces (brackets on inside surfaces of teeth, ie tongue side)
- Invisalign or similar serial-aligner style clear aligners
- Removeable orthodontic plate
Considering the time frame available, patient's lifestyle, finance etc, it was decided that we would simply correct the appearance of those upper front teeth with a removeable orthodontic plate, without addressing the underlying skeletal discrepancy. Should the patient feel the need to address that at a later stage of life, he would then look at the options available at that point.
